2018 Annual DAAD Contest
Congratulations to the winners of our 2018 Annual DAAD Photo Contest! Thank you to all who participated and to all those who voted for their favorite image.
Jemma Hwang is a DAAD Young Ambassador, currently studying German and Bioengineering at the University of Georgia (UGA). She studied abroad in Germany for one year; first in Bonn and then in Karlsruhe. As a DAAD Young Ambassador, she helps promote study abroad in Germany on her home campus and supports DAAD at events such as most recently the Diversity Abroad conference and its Global Student Leadership Summit.
Julia Phillips was born and raised in Hamburg. She studied Visual Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Hamburg before attending Columbia’s MFA program and received several DAAD scholarships. Her work is currently on view at the New Museum in New York, and her first institutional solo exhibition will open April 15, 2018 at MoMA PS1, titled Failure Detection.
DAAD USA launched a free series of webinars presenting German universities in 30 minutes. This upcoming webinar will introduce international natural science degree programs taught in English at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
Megan Anderson is a senior at Northwestern University with a major in German and a minor in Chemistry. She studied and lived abroad in Munich, Germany for 11 months with the support of a DAAD Undergraduate Scholarship. As a DAAD Young Ambassador she helps fellow students find relevant DAAD funding opportunities.
The Goethe-Institut’s Studienbrücke program is specifically designed to prepare students from abroad wishing to embark directly on a course of study in Germany.
Declan Dwyer-McNulty spent the summer of 2015 studying abroad in Bonn. A student at the State University of New York at Geneso, he spent his time in Germany taking classes on German language and culture as well as American environmentalism.
Join us at the Career Day Germany at the Goethe-Institut on Friday, November 3, 2017. Learn about opportunities for studying and working in Germany. The afternoon program is tailored to college and university students and runs from 1:30pm to 4:45pm.
DAAD and German Studies Association Awards
The DAAD is proud to announce the winners of the 2017 DAAD/GSA Best Book and Article Prizes awarded on October 6, 2017 at the 41st Annual Conference of the German Studies Association in Atlanta, GA: Greg Eghigian for the best book in History and Maria Makela for the best article in German Studies.
Robin Sommer is the CTO and co-founder of Corelight, a San Francisco-based cyber security startup offering powerful network visibility solutions. He is also a Senior Researcher at Berkeley’s International Computer Science Institute, where he leads the team developing the open-source Bro network security monitor.
