Instructions for Completing the SIP Application

Applicants to the Study & Internship program (SIP) in Germany Program must use the online application form. The application form is designed in an easy to use format and will assist us with processing applications more efficiently.

Prior to submitting an application, please make sure that you meet all of the eligibility requirements of the Study & Internship Program (SIP) in Germany program. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact the DAAD New York office.

Before you begin your application, you may want to gather your supplementary documentation (cv/resume, transcripts, etc) so that you have it handy to fill in the information required in the online form. You will not be able to save your online application in an incomplete state to complete it at a later time and if there is no activity on your application for one hour your data will automatically be deleted; the online application form must be completed in one sitting.

Required elements of the application are noted with an asterisk (*). Please check the accuracy of the your data. Click the "edit" button to make any changes. When all data is complete and correct, click "save" then "Go back to Main Menu/Overview" and go on to the next section.

After you have completed the entire form, click the "send" button. A pdf file with your application form will come up - print it out and sign it. You will notice that you have been assigned an application number near the top of the first page; in all subsequent correspondence regarding your application, please give your full name, the name of the program to which you have applied and this application number.

Please send the original print out of the application with your signature, your supplemental documents and materials, and four copies in one package to the DAAD New York office. You may want to make an extra copy of your application for your own files. Please do not staple any of your materials. Completion of the online application form does not contstitute a complete application. Your paper application must be submitted in its entirety to DAAD New York and postmarked no later than February 15, 2007.

Please send your application to:

    DAAD New York / SIP
871 United Nations Plaza, 14th Floor
New York, NY 10017 - USA

We prefer not to receive applications by hand delivery, but if you choose to do so please give them to the reception desk in the lobby on the main/ground floor of the German House (at 871 U.N. Plaza) and ask that the personnel there put your application into the DAAD box; DAAD staff cannot come down to receive your application personally.

Within eight to ten weeks* after the application deadline, you will receive an email to confirm the receipt of your application and whether any documents are missing. If you have not received a confirmation after two weeks, you may contact us to inquire; if we are unable to confirm receipt, at the discretion of the Program Officer we will ask you to resend. You may submit your application in advance of the deadline date, but it will not be processed until after the deadline to assure fairness to all applicants of that scholarship program.

If you need to make (a) correction(s) after you have printed out your completed application form, you feel the choices offered or the space available was not sufficient for your answer, or you wish to submit additional information to any of the sections of the form, we will accept hand-written (typed/word processed) addenda. Please include your full name, the scholarship program name, and application number on each page and make the same number of copies of your addenda as are required for your application form.

If you expect a delay in receiving supplemental materials that require the cooperation of another party (letters of reference, letter of invitation, acceptance to a study program, transcripts, language certificate, etc.), you should submit your application on time with a cover letter letting us know which documents are pending so that you account for all parts of your application. Application packages for which all parts have not been accounted will not be considered. Supplemental materials must be received within one week after the deadline date.

Study & Internship Program (SIP) in Germany is competitive and awards are based on academic merit. We do not discriminate with regard to race, gender, etc and encourage minority populations to apply to our programs.
