Alex from Harvard University studied comparative literature at the University of Munich from September 2004 to June 2005.
Alex has spent her life moving east: born and raised in Seattle, Washington, she left two years ago to attend Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is preparing to spend the 2004-2005 academic year in Munich with Wayne State University's Junior Year in Munich program. Alex spends the bulk of her time either reading literature (her major course of study) or working on theater projects. She is spending the summer at Harvard as part of a company preparing an experimental theater/video installation piece to be put up in August at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Alex hopes to combine her curricular and extracurricular interests while in Munich, devoting the bulk of her courseload to language, literature, and theater studies. She is drawn to Germany largely because of its incredibly vibrant contemporary theater scene, which far exceeds any immediately available to her in Boston, or indeed anywhere in the United States. She will be taking leave from Harvard to complete this year abroad, and will return in fall 2005 as a junior, ready to put some of her new knowledge into action.
