Become a Young Ambassador for study in Germany!

  • Requirements
  • Application & Deadline

  • Studying in Germany isn't just about beer, bratwurst and Neuschwanstein. You know that – because you've been there! But not everyone knows that living and studying in Germany is so much more than just the common stereotypes.

If you had a great time studying in Germany, this is YOUR chance to tell your fellow students about your experiences and give them useful information on how to enjoy their own fantastic, fulfilling study abroad stay there. YOU are in an ideal position to encourage and inform your fellow students about study opportunities and student life in Germany. The Young Ambassadors Program can give you the skills and the means to do so.

Young Ambassadors are undergraduate students from North America who have recently studied in Germany and are interested in promoting study in Germany at their home universities and colleges. And through the Young Ambassadors Program, students will be able to keep their ties to Germany, learn valuable presentation and organizational skills and make a difference in something they feel strongly about.

    2007 Training Session in NYC

Young Ambassadors do not necessarily have to be alumni of DAAD grant programs.

You are an ideal candidate for the DAAD Young Ambassadors Program if you:
  • are an undergraduate student at a college or university in the US or Canada.
  • have recently studied in Germany (for any period, from a summer program to an entire year).
  • are available to promote studying in Germany on your campus in the coming academic year.
  • can speak intelligently and enthusiastically about your experiences in Germany in front of groups.
  • are willing to organize one student event on campus per semester.
  • are available August 22-24, 2008 for a training session in New York City.

Young Ambassadors are expected to organize at least one event per semester, where they will invite prospective students to hear about their experiences in Germany. This could be hosting a 'Germany Night' with beverages and snacks, organizing a German film screening, or offering fellow students a 'Kaffee und Kuchen' study break. They should also be willing to take part in activities organized by their college or university's Study Abroad Office, such as study abroad fairs, information sessions, etc. We look forward to hearing your creative ideas to promote study in Germany!

At the training session in New York City (August 22-24), DAAD Young Ambassadors will be given all the tools they will need to promote study and research in Germany effectively on their campuses, including presentations, informational materials, etc. It will also be an opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with other students who have studied in Germany. DAAD will cover the costs of transportation and accomodation for this trip.

DAAD will also put short profile of each Young Ambassador online (with an email address). The Ambassadors must be wiling to respond to students' questions about their particular program/university or about life as a student in Germany as general.

At the end of each semester, Young Ambassadors must tell DAAD what they've done. DAAD will provide each Young Ambassador with funding for events as well as brochures, fun items and more to give away on campus.
