THE GERMAN INITIATIVE FOR STUDENTS IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
2003-2005
The implementation of academic and scientific knowledge in practical applications has been and will continue to be the core task of the engineering professions. Those whose profiles include pragmatic and interdisciplinary engineering competencies will be sought after in an increasingly changing international environment.
To foster practical and international experience in this field, DAAD introduced the "German Initiative for Students in Science and Technology" (GAIST) in 2003. Ten US institutions of higher education have been selected to participate in the GAIST program to promote exchange in the areas of science and technology. A maximum of 20 students per year per institution can be assisted in finding and completing internships in Germany. Participating US institutions are also expected to assist German students in the undertaking of internships in the US. This program is an initiative of the DAAD and is funded by the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the German Federal Government.
