My year in Munich affected me in more ways than I could have imagined. Munich is a beautiful place in which to both work, play, and of course, study. The city is clean, the economy is great (although the exchange rate isn't the best if you're coming from the States) and public transportation is amazing. The student part of Munich, Schwabing, is full of lovely restaurants, clubs, and cafes, and within an hour's train ride you can be in the Alps. Who could ask for more? The university in Munich, Ludwig Maximilians Universitaet Muenchen, has just been ranked one of the highest in Europe and Monocle Magazine recently rated Munich the "most liveable city in the world" for its general feeling of "Gemuetlichkeit."
In addition to living in a wonderful city, I also enjoyed Munich's central location within Europe. This prime location made it easy to hop on a plane or train heading in any direction and easily arrive in such diverse places as Dubrovnik, Barcelona, London, and Berlin. I took full advantage of the two month break between semesters to cover as much ground in Europe as possible. After Munich, my favorite city from this year was Dubrovnik, Croatia, which is just now getting rediscovered as a popular tourist destination.
