Dr. Carsten Ahrens
Professor of Civil Engineering and Geoinformatics
Oldenburg-Ostfriesland-Wilhelmshaven University of Applied Sciences
 
As a member of the Civil Engineering and Geoinformatics faculty (located in Oldenburg) at Oldenburg-Ostfriesland-Wilhelmshaven University of Applied Sciences, Dr. Ahrens teaches Technical Mechanics, Environmental Physics, Applied Physics and Mathematics. He is also the coordinator for international activities and the ECTS credit system. Dr. Ahrens earned his Diploma and PhD at the University of Göttingen . Before coming to Oldenburg in 1975, he was an expert in nondestructive material testing of primary nuclear power components at TÜV-Rheinland in Cologne . He has served as the vice rector of Oldenburg and has initiated and coordinated two new engineering curricula. He has been very active in international exchange and partnerships, coordinating TEMPUS, ERASMUS, LEONARDO, and SOCRATES programs. Dr. Ahrens is the Vice President of the European Council of Civil Engineers and a representative and founder of the Accrediting Agency for Courses of Study in Engineering, Information Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics (ASIIN).
 
 
Dr. Claus Bruedigam
Professor of Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, and Automation
Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences
 
Dr. Bruedigam earned his Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Munich and his PhD in Engineering from the Institute for System Dynamics and Flight Mechanics of the Military University of Munich. Before coming to Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences in 1997, he worked at Siemens Automotive where he functioned as a project and team leader for the development of engine management systems and functions. Since coming to Ingolstadt , Dr. Bruedigam has served as the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Director of the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology program. Currently he serves as a member of the planning committee for the Masters program in International Automotive Engineering. He was a guest lecturer at Port Elizabeth Technikon in South Africa , and is currently on sabbatical at INA US Corporation in Fort Mill , SC.
 
 
Dr. Werner Fischer
Rector
Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences
 
Dr. Werner Fischer is the Rector of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, where he has served since 1970, first as a professor in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, then as Vice Rector, and since 1990 as the Rector. He earned his PhD from the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering of the University of Karlsruhe . Dr. Fischer has lead the Institute of Technical Mechanics and Materials Strength, and was a lecturer at the University of Karlsruhe . He has authored many scientific and didactic publications and from 1970 to 1980 was a colleague of the magazine Applied Mechanics Review . He has been a member of the German University Rectors Conference (HRK) since 1994, and a member of the board of the Accrediting Agency for Courses of Study in Engineering, Information Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics (ASIIN) since 1999. He has served for many years as a member of DAAD scholarship selection committees and became a member of DAAD's board of directors in 2004. He is the president of the German National Monitoring Committee of the Society for Engineering Pedagogy (IGIP) and a member of the European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI).
 
 
Dr. Manfred J. Hampe
Chair of Chemical Process Engineering, Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering
Technical University Darmstadt  

A graduate of the renowned Technical University of Munich, Dr. Hampe currently presides as Chairperson of Chemical Process Engineering, leading a group of 15 researchers at the Technical University of Darmstadt. He also serves as the Erasmus and Cluster Coordinator for student exchange programs of the European Union. Professor Hampe was formerly the Dean of Students in the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering at Darmstadt .
 
Mr. Günter Heitman
Senior Researcher
Technical University of Berlin
 
Mr. Heitman was a Fellow of the European Society of Engineering Education, an expert member of various European engineering education development and evaluation projects, a member of the European Researchers Network on vocation education, and a member of the German Commission of Engineering Education prior to his current position at the Institute of Professional Education at the Technical University of Berlin. Mr. Heitman received his Dipl-Ing in Construction Engineering and Dipl-Kfm in Microeconomics and Business Administration both from the TU Berlin, where he is now responsible for research and development in the field of curriculum development, teaching and learning in engineering education, accreditation and quality assurance, teaching staff development, and international cooperation as a representative of TU Berlin in engineering education associations and networks. He is a current member of the European Society of Engineering Education (SEFI).
 
 
Dr. Klaus Henning
Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics
Rheinisch Technical University of Aachen
 
Dr. Klaus Henning studied Electrical Engineering with a minor in Politics in Munich and Aachen . Following that study, he worked more than ten years in the automation engineering sector. He then earned his PhD in Human Machine Systems in 1974. He became Professor of Information Theory in 1980. From 1985 to 1994, he was a Professor of Cybernetic Procedures in the Faculty of Machine Systems at the Rheinisch Technical University of Aachen. Since 1985 Dr. Henning has lead the Center for Learning and Knowledge Management (ZLW) at Aachen . Since 1994 he has been the owner of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Cybernetics. He was a member of board of the German Engineering Union (VDI) from 1997 to 2002. As board member of VDI he was responsible for the occupational politics field. Until 2002 Dr. Henning was also the Chairman of the Editorial Advisory Committee of VDI. At Aachen he also fulfils administrative functions; he was the Vice Rector for Budget Planning and Finances from 1998-1999. Beyond academia, he works as a scientific expert for OSTO System Consultant Ltd., and is the member of several boards of directors, including Xenium A.G.
 
 
 
Dr. Rolf Herz
Dean, Department of Building Services Engineering, Process Engineering, Paper and Synthetics, and Printing Technology
Munich University of Applied Sciences
 
As the Department Chairperson at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, Dr. Herz coordinates cooperations with the United States in the university. He is also Professor of Mechanical Engineering, specializing in piping, pressure vessels, and plant engineering. Professionally Dr. Herz also has experience as a Project Engineer at Siemens, with the Department of Buildings in Munich , as a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Engineering and Automation in Stuttgart , and as a consulting engineer for process engineering and building services. He earned his degrees from the University of Stuttgart (Dr.-Ing.), Technical University of Munich (Dipl.-Ing.) and did one semester of thesis work at the University California in Santa Barbara . He is affiliated with the VDI, Society of German Engineers.
 
 
Dr. Gerhard Hoerber
Director of Mechanical Engineering Degree Programs
Berlin University of Applied Technology and Commerce
 
Professor Hoerber earned his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Munich in 1981. He completed his PhD in Mechanical and Process Design at TU Munich in 1986. He worked as R&D Manager of an equipment company until 1990. He then became General Manager of a hazardous waste treatment company in Berlin . In 1995 he became Professor of International Environmental Engineering at Bremen University of Applied Sciences. In 1996 moved to Berlin and became Professor at the Berlin University of Applied Technology and Commerce. From 1999 to 2001 he served as Dean of the Department of Engineering. Beginning in 2001 Prof. Hoerber assumed responsibility for the Mechanical Engineering curriculum, as well as the migration of the Automotive Engineering and Process Engineering programs from traditional degrees to the internationally compatible Bachelor and Master system. His research interests are in Virtual Design, Automotive Engineering, Renewable Energies, Waste Management, particularly in automobile waste management.
 
 
Dr. Michael Hoffmann
Professor and Co-Chair, Department of Microwave Technology

Michael H.W. Hoffmann earned his Diploma in physics in 1975 and his PhD in RF and Microwave Engineering in 1980, both at Saarland University , Germany . Following his Ph.D. he worked as a research assistant at Saarland University until 1983.  He worked at ANT Nachrichtentechnik GmbH (today Marconi Communications GmbH) as a systems engineer and researcher from 1983 until 1988.  From 1989 until 1991 he was a professor at the University of Applied Sciences of the German Telecom in Berlin .  Since 1991 he has been professor and co-chair of the Department of Microwave Technology at the University of Ulm .  He was awarded the Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg for excellence in higher education in 2000.  He was a STINT Visiting Professor and researcher at the Ångström Institute of the University of Uppsala, Sweden in 2001.  His current research interests include electronic noise, RF and Microwave Communication Systems, and an information-theory based learning-theory.  As a vice-president of the European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering (EAEEIE), he is active at the international and national levels in modern higher engineering education. On behalf of the association of faculties of EEE at German research universities, he is the speaker of the committee responsible for evaluation and accreditation of degree programs and study abroad. He is a member of the IEEE, ITG, and VDE. Currently, he is serving as a member of the International Steering Committee of the International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEE).
 
 
 
Dr. Dietmar von Hoyningen-Huene
Vice Rector and Professor of Hydrodynamics, Aerodynamics and Data Processing

Dr. von Hoyningen-Huene studied process engineering at the University of Karlsruhe . He worked as a Project Engineer with BASF AG in Ludwigshafen , Germa­ny and as Director of the Engineering Department of Koch Engineering GmbH. Since 1972, he has been a professor at the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim in the fields of hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, and data processing. In 1981 he became Vice Rector of the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim and has been Rector since 1985. He received the Distinguished Service Cross of the Federal Republic of Germany in recognition of his activities in the sector of higher education, especially in connection with the restructuring of institutions of higher education in the new federal states after the unification of Germany . In 1996 he received the honorary doctorate of the University of Nancy, France. In 2001 he received the Medal of Distinguished Service from the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. His current activities and asso­ciations include: President, Conference of Rectors of the Universities of Applied Sciences in Baden-Württemberg (RKF); representative of the Fachhochschulen in the working group Grandes Ecoles - Technical Universities (GE-TH) of the Conference of Rectors of Institutions of Higher Education (HRK) which deals with French-German cooperation in engineering; vo­ting member of Fachhochschulen of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg in the Senate of the Conference of Rectors of Institutions of Higher Education (HRK); member of the Plenary Assembly of the HRK. 1999 - 2002 he was member of the new founded German Accreditation Council.
 
 
Dr. Robert Kragler
Deputy Rector for Research and International Relations, Deputy Head of Computer Center
Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences
 
At Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences, Dr. Kragler is Deputy Rector for Research and International Relations and a member of the Technology and Management faculty. He lectures in calculus, data processing, and computer algebra. He is responsible for the introduction of new media and E-Learning, is the scientific head of the international office, and is the scientific coordinator of the Institute for Applied Research (IAF). Before coming to Ravensburg-Weingarten in 1990, Dr. Kragler was an assistant professor at the Institute of Theoretical Physics and a systems engineer at Dornier. He earned his Diploma in Physics from the University of Erlangen , his PhD from the University of Frankfurt/Main and his postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) at the University of Konstanz . Dr. Kragler is a member of IEEE and GI.
 
 
Dr. Rüdiger Kukral
Vice Rector for Internationalization and Professor of Process Engineering
Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences
 
Dr. Kukral has been with Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences since 1995. He teaches courses on fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and modeling and simulation. His research interests include heat transfer, thermodynamics, and modeling and simulation. As Vice Rector for Internationalization, he directs the international office. Previously, he coordinated international activities for the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering. He earned his Diploma and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart , and held a position there as an assistant in the Institute of Thermodynamics and Thermal Process Engineering.
 
 
Dr. Rainer Nordmann
Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
Technical University of Darmstadt
 
Dr. Nordmann is the Chair of Mechatronics and Machine Acoustics and Dean of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt. He is responsible for the general management of the Mechanical Engineering faculty, and for teaching and research in mechatronics and machine acoustics. He received his Diploma and Ph.D. from TU Darmstadt. Before coming back to Darmstadt in 1995, he was a professor of machine dynamics and control theory at the University of Kaiserslautern .
 
Dr. Georg Obieglo
Rector
Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences
 
Professor Obieglo is responsible for the overall direction of the Fachhochschule Reutlingen. In addition, he is a Board Member of Swineburne University in Melbourne and the Director of Otto Johannsen Technikum. He was formerly a development engineer for the Enka division of Siemens AG. Dr. Obieglo holds a doctorate degree in engineering from the University of Stuttgart . He is the President of the GATE Group of Fachhochschulen in Germany for Study Abroad.
 
 
Dr. Elmar Schreiber

University of Applied Sciences Bremen
 
Dr. Schreiber's background is in Physics and Mathematics, which he studied at the University of Paderborn , and earned his Diplom in Physics. He also completed the State Examination for teaching there. He went on to acquire his doctorate degree and complete a Habiliation at the Free University Berlin . Since then he has been a Scientific Project Leader at the Free University and the Max Born Institut in Berlin , and Assistant Professor at the Free University, and the Director of the Center for Ultrafast Laser Application at Princeton University . As the President of the Hochschule Bremen, he oversees all operations of the university.

Dr. Peter Sperber

Dr. Sperber is Professor of Electical Engineering and Media Technology and Vice President for Research and Development of Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences. He earned his Diploma in Physics at the University of Regensburg in 1984, and his PhD in 1988 at Regensburg 's Institute of Applied Physics . Before coming to Deggendorf in 1998, Dr. Sperber worked first as a project engineer for operations research at Dornier GmbH in Friedrichshafen and as a project manager of the German Modular Transportable Laser Ranging System (MTLRS-1) at the Federal Institute of Cartography and Satellite Geodesy in Wettzell. Since coming to Deggendorf, he has taught Physics, Metrology, Optoelectronics and Laser Technology. He became Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Media Technology in 2001 and Vice President for Research and Development in 2003. He is a member of the editorial board of the international journal Automatic Control and Computer Science , and a member of the scientific advisory committee of the International Conference on Mathematical and Physical Methods in Ecology and Environmental Monitoring in Moscow.
